And here’s someone moving flats in Vienna by bicycle. One of the workshops at the EuroEnviro 2010 symposium featured the challenge of moving the entire contents of a flat exclusively by cargo bikes. A young couple was moving and 12 volunteers from the symposium showed up to help them. Most of them had never ridden a cargo bike before. Note the three-rider tandem with trailer …

It’s been one of those weeks this week. We went all-out to get Lucy and Graham’s wedding online a day earlier than we would normally have done so that the decks were clear for the installation of the new main editing computer yesterday afternoon, but it never happened.

This morning it was promised for this afternoon, and now it’s promised for tomorrow afternoon and I’m really grumpy about that, because it means I’ll now be installing software all day Sunday instead of recovering from Saturday’s wedding and getting a start made on the editing of it.

But whatever. Here’s a cartoon I rather like …

and a video of an Indian version of the wall of death, with a novel and seriously mental twist to it …

Each year The Washington Post runs its Mensa Invitational, in which readers take any word from the dictionary, alter it by adding, subtracting or changing one letter, then supply a new definition. My favourites this year are …

Cashtration The act of buying a house, which renders the subject financially impotent for an indefinite period of time.

Ignoranus A person who’s both stupid and an arsehole.

Giraffiti Vandalism spray-painted very, very high.

Inoculatte To take coffee intravenously when you are running late.

Foreploy Any misrepresentation about yourself for the purpose of getting laid.

Karmageddon It’s like, when everybody is sending off all these really bad vibes, right? And then, like, the Earth explodes. And it’s like, serious.

Glibido All talk and no action.

Dopeler Effect The tendency of stupid ideas to seem smarter when they come at you rapidly.

Readers are also asked to supply alternative meanings for common words, with these being among this years winners …

Coffee The person upon whom one coughs.

Negligent Absentmindedly answering the door when wearing only a nightgown.

Lymph To walk with a lisp.

Gargoyle Olive-flavored mouthwash

Oyster A person who sprinkles his conversation with Yiddishisms

Frisbeetarianism The belief that, after death, the soul flies up onto the roof and gets stuck there.

Circumvent An opening in the front of boxer shorts worn by Jewish men.

OK … this video’s posted for no reason other than we like the song and the weekend approaches.

Have a good one!

And by a stroke of luck Mikael Colville-Andersen’s just posted a little video which lets me get something in about both cycling and snow. It seems that the good folk of Copenhagen just ignore it and carry on as normal, albeit more slowly, and without resorting to studded tyres or anything special. Love the way the bike-lane snowploughs dump the snow on the parked cars …

Here’s a fascinating video interview with Mikael, put together by some Aussie guy called Mike Rubbo and a videographer by the awesome name of Violeta Bran-Lafourcade. I just love the vacuum cleaner analogy …
